The open workshop for the conservation of textile objects was designed to have a demonstrative character, with the aim of introducing the general public to the multifaceted works and methods that have been carried out for the conservation and restoration of objects hosted in the main exhibition.
Visitors will learn about the stages of conservation of a real museum object made of fabric. They will participate in selected activities of the process in order to be introduced to the unseen world of art conservation, while specialized conservators describe to the public the complex process of the battle against time in textile objects of the modern Greek cultural heritage from the museum’s collections. Modern equipment is available in the laboratory, where specialized scientific staff present it, with the aim of applying modern conservation methods. This equipment gives the conservators the opportunity, without restrictions, to choose the safest methods (conservation and mounting) for a variety of many different objects from the Museum’s collections that they will have to deal with.
